2023-06-06 | Son of Incheon

I like hiking. I don't go hiking every day though, I try to hike whenever possible even alone. I think it's a healthy hobby. I like to listen to music and think about various kinds of stuff while walking through the course: how is my life going, how can I model spatial transcriptomics data, how to do it over the weekend with my wife, how to cook lagu pasta, etc. June 6th was South Korean Memorial Day. The point is, it was a holiday. So Jinhee asked me if I'm interested in going hiking to a 'nearby' mountain. I automatically said yes. This time, I thought of bringing my future wife also to introduce Jinhee. We met at 9 A.M in the morning and headed to Ganghwa Island where the mountain is. It took like two hours which was longer than I expected. As I told many things about Jinhee my wife before, and vice versa, we enjoyed chatting three of us.

Ganghwa Island itself was actually quite big, so it took some time to drive to the entrance after we entered After two hours, we finally arrived at the entrance. There were quite many people. Korean people are so healthy! I thought. From this point, I already felt quite good due to the fresh air quality. I was inhaling bad gases from the cars, smokes of cigarettes, dust from the construction, and trash, and now I was drinking the freshest oxygen. As soon as we got into the mountain trail, I found a snail. It was my first time seeing a slug (a raw snail that doesn't have a shell).

Another thing to discover is the variety of mushrooms flowered on tree trunks. People say that 'pretty' mushrooms are toxic, but still, the unpretty ones didn't look so palatable either. At least I wouldn't eat, I thought.

The mountain wasn't too high. It was a beginner's level course I think. Jinhee seemed to want to experience more of advanturous and exciting tracks, but he is too strong. For example, there was the part where we had to actually 'climb' by holding a rope over a rock with some slope, at the very near the top. He really liked that experience. I tend to get tired much earlier than other guys. I typically like to observe the surrounding views, the plants, some animals, flowers, and the people while I walk up, while some guys focus more on climbing itself. The view at the top was good. We could feel the wide and far space stretching to the horizon over the sea. My body wanted sugar, so we had some gimbab that we brought.

The descent was a little easier as it was made of wooden steps mostly. I felt a sense of accomplishment after coming all the way down. whooooo. We right away headed to the restaurant that we searched for at the top of the mountain. They sold foods made of Memil. The dumpling was fantastic. Indeed, eating after working out is the BEST.
